What is StoryToDieFor?+
StoryToDieFor is a marketplace where you can buy and sell interactive stories, such as murder mystery games, designed to be played at home with friends.
Creators upload their stories, and players can purchase and download them instantly.
Do I need an account?+
Yes, an account is required to:
- Purchase stories
- Access your downloads
- Publish stories as a creator
For Buyers
What do I get when I purchase a story?+
You will receive a set of downloadable files that usually include:
- Instructions for the host
- Character sheets
- Clues and evidence
- A timeline of the game
- The full solution
How do I run a game?+
Each story should include an Introduction or Host Guide explaining everything you need to know to run the game.
Can I play the same story multiple times?+
You can reuse a story, but it is best experienced once per group. Players who already know the solution may spoil the experience.
Can I share the story with friends?+
You may share materials only with players participating in your game.
You may not:
- Upload the files online
- Share them publicly
- Resell or redistribute the story
Can I use a story for a paid event?+
No, unless explicitly allowed by the creator. Purchases are for personal use only.
What if the story is incomplete / doesn't make sense?+
All stories are reviewed by the platform before publication. However, this review focuses on overall completeness and structure, and may not catch every detail.
If you encounter any issues, you can request a refund within 7 days of purchase if:
- Files are missing
- The story is incoherent
- The game is not playable
Please contact us with details of the issue so we can review it and assist you.

Yes. All payments are handled by Stripe, a globally trusted payment platform used by millions of businesses worldwide. Your card details are processed directly and securely by Stripe β StoryToDieFor never stores your full payment information.
Every transaction is protected by SSL encryption and Stripe's built-in fraud prevention. You can learn more about how payments work in our Payments & Technical section.

No. Refunds are not granted for:
- Personal preference
- Difficulty level
- Minor issues
Will I always have access to my purchases?+
You can access your purchases through your account.
However, you should download and keep a copy, as long-term storage is not guaranteed.
Can I post the solution online?+

These stories rely on secrets and twists — sharing them ruins the experience for others.
For Creators
Who can publish a story?+
Anyone can submit a story, as long as:
- You own the rights to the content
- The story is original
- It meets platform quality standards
Can I use AI for my story?+
AI tools may be used to help with formatting and polishing your story. However:
- AI must not be used to generate or create story content
- The story β its plot, structure, and writing β must be your own work
- Stories that lack coherence or appear to have been AI-generated will be rejected
- You remain fully responsible for the content you publish
What should my story include?+
You are free to structure your story however you like. However, if you're unsure, we strongly encourage following a clear structure to ensure your game is easy to run and enjoyable for players.
A recommended structure is:
- Game Master file: what the story is about, what needs to be printed, what to send to players, how to manage the game, and what to read first
- Player documents: introduction/plot, invitations, and a short character list so players can choose their roles
- Character sheets: detailed versions with full backstories, motivations, secrets, and whether they are the culprit
- Timeline: a clear sequence of events for the Game Master to reference
- Evidence & materials: anything that needs to be printed or shared during the game
- End-of-game: the full solution and what the Game Master should reveal at the end
You can use the free story The Curse of the Dark Moon as a structural reference.
Important: Do not copy the story and simply change names or settings. Your submission must be original. Stories that reuse the same structure, plot, or twists too closely will be rejected.
How are stories reviewed?+
Do I need to provide a summary?+
Yes. You must provide a summary of your story during submission that includes: the full plot, character motivations, the solution.
How much can I charge?+
You set your own price. Note that each creator can only publish one free story β any additional stories must be priced.
What is the platform commission?+
StoryToDieFor takes a 30% commission on each sale.
You receive 70% of the sale price.
When do I get paid?+
Buyers have 7 days to review the story and raise any complaint. Payments are held for 14 days from the date of purchase to allow time for the review window and any complaint processing. If no valid complaint is raised, your payment is released after this period.
What happens if a buyer complains?+
If a buyer reports that your story is:
- Incomplete
- Incoherent
- Missing key files
The platform will review the case. If the story does not meet guidelines:
- You may not receive payment
- You may be asked to fix the story
- Repeated issues may lead to account suspension
Can I update my story after publishing?+
Yes. You can:
- Fix errors
- Improve clarity
- Add content
Updates are submitted for review before going live. While your update is being reviewed, the current published version of your story remains available to buyers.
Updates should not fundamentally change the story in a way that affects previous buyers.
Can I archive or unlist a story?+
Yes. You can archive (unlist) a story at any time.
Archived stories are removed from search and storefronts, but buyers who already purchased the story can still access their files.
You can republish an archived story by editing it and submitting it for review again.
Can I publish multiple stories?+
You can only submit one story at a time for review. Once approved, you can submit another.
Can I use existing characters or franchises?+
No, unless you have the legal rights. Stories must be original and not infringe on copyrighted material.
